My father was freed by Soviet soldiers during the campaign in Transnistria. My Uncle was then drafted by the Red army and later killed, near the end of the war. His body has never been recovered. So, I know a partial answer to the question in the song title. We may be on the same side of the barricades or on opposite sides, but I will always cherish the sacrifice made by common soldiers in the harshest of conditions. Indeed a moving masterpiece performed by brilliant choir and lead singer. Greetings and thank you from Israel!
